Albert Einstein

 

 

        

Born on March 14th, 1879 in Kingdom of Wurttemberg, German empire and died on April 18th, 1955 in Princeton, New Jersey.  He was a German-born theoretical physicist who developed the general theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics.  While best known for his mass-energy equivalence formula E=mc2 (which has been dubbed "the world's most famous equation") he received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics.  Einstein became an American citizen in 1940.  Not long after settling into his career at the institute for Advanced Study (in Princeton, New Jersey).  During the final stage of his life, Einstein transitioned to a vegetarian lifestyle, arguing that "the vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind".  On April 17th 1955, Albert experienced internal bleeding caused by the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm which had previously been reinforced surgically by Dr. Rudolph Nissen in 1948.  He refused surgery and died early the next morning at the of 76.
